Regarding the Oct. 27 Outlook article "Catholic social teaching divides Michigan women": Anne Doyle seems to want to make abortion a fight between her personal conscience and Cardinal Maida's dictates, whereas the real argument is between her personal conscience and the 2,000-year-old teaching of the church, based on Scripture and tradition, that abortion is and will continue to be a grave violation of God's law.
My answer to "pro-choice Catholics" (an oxymoron) comes in the words of Alexander Solzhenitsyn on Feb. 19, 1977: "If we are deprived of the concept of good and evil, what will be left? Nothing but the manipulation of one another. We will sink to the status of animals."
